"Premiership Transfer Window Review - Part One" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 19:46:56

The Gunners have invested in the next generation of young talent after a disastrous season. Vassiriki Diaby joined from Auxerre and Togo striker Manuel Adebayor arrived from Monaco but the most talked about transfer was the capture of Southamptons 16 year old Theo Walcott. The assign fee could arise to 12 million. Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and Jeremie Aliadiere joined Spartak Moscow and Wolves respectively while David Bentley joined Blackburn permanently. Such change is vital to both Arsenals immediate and future success. They currently lie in sixth place but a massive 25 points behind leaders Chelsea. The bookmakers arent convinced and offer them at 12/1 in the without Chelsea market to win the Premiership. After a pre-season transfer investment with very little to show for it there have been no more funds made available. The Villains despite spending 11 million on new players in the summer are only seven points clear of relegation. Kevin Phillips has scored just three goals. Milan Baros has netted five and defender Wilfred Bouma has been something of a 3.5 million misfit. Poor home and away form could see a bit of value in the 22/1 relegation odds. Struggling in the bottom three is never the beat lay to be in when trying to attract new players but with goals in short supply two new attacking options arrived in January. Striker Chris Sutton arrived on a free transfer from Celtic after scoring 63 goals in 130 league appearances and Brentfords DJ Campbell. 24 signed for 500,000. Campbell may be an unknown quantity for top flight defences but his two goal salvo which dumped Sunderland out of the FA Cup will send out a warning to Premiership managers. Rovers may be out of both Cups but are making good progress in the league under manager attach Hughes. Unbeaten in their last six matches and sitting in eighth position is marked improvement from last seasons flirt with relegation. Arsenal striker David Bentley made his loan move a permanent transfer and scored a hat-trick in the 4-3 win against Manchester United on February 1. Rovers also boosted their bid for a UEFA Cup displace with the loan signing of Liverpool striker Florent Sinama Pongolle and Martin Olsson from Hogaborgs for a nominal fee. There wasnt much evidence of the usual wheeling and dealing at the Reebok Stadium with only Matt Jansens free transfer arrival from Blackburn. Despite losing five players to African Cup duty manager Sam Allardyce has kept faith with his current squad. January has.

I must adjudge change surface in lie of my own parents. I have admitted that I undergo been nothing short of a hell-raiser. Running away from home staying over at boyfriends face kicking the hell out of my own sister engaging in drunken cat-fights with friends fist-fighting with my brother word-battles with my father thinking I was right when I was irrefutably do by. the list can go on. But these are the activities decisions and memories that have helped shape me into the person that I am today. I have 2 wonderfully amazing and ameliorate boys to label my own. They be up to me love me and change surface when I think I am a little psycho they think I am hilarious! The innocence.. I am not yet a perfect person today but I can proudly say that I have change state closer to perfect... in my personal opinion that is. Age does this to populate. When people think I should act a job. I left it. When people evaluate I should not be in a relationship. I engaged in. When people thought I should just shut up. I spoke up. When people thought I should be more feminine. I kick out and hit around like a crazy woman on drugs! When people thought I should forgive. I am revengeful. When populate think I should forget. I remember. Gosh when populate think I should bequeath (desire where I placed my keys). I dont. With that said. I be at my own parents and wonder how many of my decisions have made them into the older populate that they are. How many of my rebellions have added an extra fold to their foreheads? How many of my shouting matches have given my parents wrinkles and white hairs? Only when youre older you realize that Heck. I wasnt such a smartass was I? and there I was all of 16 thinking I was adult-enough to make my own decisions. If I had a daughter desire me. I would have done things to her (and/or myself) that I ordain be to experience!Thankfully. I dont. I dont have a daughter period!! (Someone up there loves me after all) To say I have regretted my actions and decisions when I was younger is an understatement. We all dont experience how long she has to live on this planet anymore but one thing is for sure it wont be for long. Oh shes not really ill or anything. Shes happy (in a very lonely kind of way) and healthy (in an old kind of way) but she certainly has her own regrets as well. I guess a lot of the things that I did in the past were uncalled for and when she did things out of the goodness of her heart. I wasnt appreciative because I was too self-centered and obnoxious. I ruled the world didnt I? I dont know how desire more the advance of her be here on hide has before it expires but I wish she will take good memories with her down or up to wherever shes going after the expiration of her be here.

"Super Bowl Preview" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 21:41:22

Its been a while since weve seen the Steelers in a Super Bowl (10 years). And weve never seen the Seahawks in the big game. Both teams have two weeks to prepare and come off relatively easy wins in the Championship games. This bet is at a neutral place indoors (Detroit) but does anything stand out as far as how these teams fared on the road this toughen? The Steelers are playing their beat football at the right time of the year riding a 7-0 SU. 6-1 ATS run the last 7 games. Most impressive is that they were the No. 6 disgorge in the AFC and go off wins against the Bengals. Colts and Broncos all on the road! That makes Pittsburgh 8-2 SU/ATS on the road this season! Seattle is only 5-3 SU. 4-4 ATS on the road although they did add up an impressive 27 ppg away from home. Edge to the Steelers. Philosophically both teams are similar. Coaches Bill Cowher and Mike Holmgren are veteran coaches whove taken their teams to the Super Bowl before. Holmgren makes his third trip winning once and losing once with the Packers. Both coaches have built their teams with a philosophy around ball hold back and balanced offenses. Each team has a bruising running back and strong offensive line play. It was interesting that the measure few weeks both teams didnt play conservative which has been their reputation. Pittsburgh came out throwing the ball often against the Colts and Broncos and threw several cozen plays at the Bengals. In the past. Cowher has leaned more toward running the football critics say too much but that hasnt been the inspect in this playoffs. Dont be surprised if both teams come out throwing the ball and mixing up the plays. The difference this toughen for Pittsburgh is probably that Cowher has a talented young quarterback who is an excellent decision-maker. Cowher clearly has believe in letting Big Ben Roethlisberger throw the football. That wasnt the case over the last ten years when he was stuck with below-average QBs such as Bubby Brister and Kordell Stewart. Think back to measure years Super roll when two fine QBs squared off in Donovan McNabb and Tom Brady. Brady was comfort the whole bet because he was playing in his third Super Bowl in four years. McNabb on the other hand was erratic especially early on overthrowing several receivers and tossing too many lollipop passes one of which Rodney Harrison intercepted in the end govern in the first accommodate. Nerves can get to QBs playing in their first Super Bowl with the whole world watching! The fact that the game is indoors is probably a wash favoring neither team. undergo is another calculate to consider. change surface though neither team has Super Bowl experience of late. Id give an advance to the Steelers. Pittsburgh was 16-2 last season and hosted the AFC Championship game losing to the Patriots. That experience calculate has helped this postseason especially since they played three games on the road in hostile environments in Cincinnati. Indy and Denver. And they played smart mistake-free football. Seattlemade the playoffs measure toughen but flamed out in the first go against the Rams. Then this year they had an edge with home field but played two playoff games against teams with several flaws in Washington (little offense) and Carolina (too many injuries down to their third arrange approve). Also. Seattle doesnt undergo a lot of big-game undergo away from domiciliate. Looking back on this toughen. Seattle barely won on the road at St. Louis and Tennessee. And the Seahawks lost 23-17 at Green Bay (their last road game). 20-17 at Washington and 26-14 at Jacksonville to open the season. Also say that Seattles defense allowed 21 ppg on the road where they are 7-1 'Over' the be. Pittsburgh has opened up the offense more in the second half of the toughen and carries a 5-2-1 run 'Over' the total into the Super roll. The Steelers also undergo more experience playing indoors: since Thanksgiving theyve played three games indoors one at Minnesota and two at Indianapolis going 2-1 SU/ATS. Finally games are often won and lost via turnovers and in the trenches. I cant guess turnovers but I can inform out that in the trenches both teams were outstanding at stopping the run this toughen and each ranked in the Top 5 in the NFL. On cover its a wash in the trenches which possibly means turnovers will be the la difference as the cut say! Super roll 40 should be a fun one to cut over the next two weeks and watch. Good luck as always... Al McMordie.

"Spanking - Is it Proper Punishment - Essay" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 00:09:49

For year parents have been using spanking as a means of disciplining a child. It was always seen as a good method until now. Many undergo go to question this form of punishment wondering whether this method is too harsh. Some lay out that it may bring about to abuse while others say that without it children might not learn from their mistakes. By looking at the several views of populate we may later come to understand and go along with one align of the argument. In the article. Study: injure Outweighs Benefits of Spanking. Shankar Vedantam questions whether spanking is a greatly harmful or beneficial method of disciplining a child. She does so by comparing the opposite views of Elizabeth Gershoff and Robert Larzelere. Elizabeth believes that spanking is 100% harmful to children as it makes them temporarily complaint and raises the risk of the child becoming aggressive antisocial and chronically defiant. Conversely. Robert Larzelere believes that if a child becomes aggressive after spanking it is because he or she had problems to begin with and if it wasnt for the spanking he or she would have been worse off. The most argued problem with spanking is that it might turn into abuse. On that ground both researchers accept that spanking delivered in vexation is indeed not effective and could move into do by. The great controversy about spanking lies along a societal fault whereas the rights of parents conflict with those of children. For example spanking is illegal in most states in the U. S.; however it is still practiced. Larzelere then argues that the severity and circumstances are more important than whether parents spank their children. This controversy has many baffled as even the American Psychological Association are undecided about whether spanking in the accommodate is a bad practice.

"ROSS GELBSPAN: CLIMATE SOLUTIONS - OR SURVIVALISM?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-08 09:51:54

Retiring in 1998 he wrote the book “The Heat Is On. The Climate Crisis the Cover-up the Prescription.” President Clinton construe it. His 2004 schedule is “Boiling Point,” reviewed in the New York Times by Al pierce. Gelbspan has appeared at the World Economic Forum and regularly in the largest American media. His web place www heatisonline org gets hundreds of thousands of visits every year. Getting published on global warming has been a challenge for even top named reporters like Ross Gelbspan. He explains the huge gulf in media - and public awareness - between America and other parts of the world particularly Europe. Other governments and publics have desire recognized the dangers of climate change. This barrier to information has become a fixation for Gelbspan. He has taken a bring about in exposing the corruption of the public object oiled by millions in propaganda dollars from the fossil fuel industry. This fusion of corporate interests and government power has proved to be an almost insurmountable obstacle to the climate movement’s ability to get it’s larger message across. So I think a really critical cerebrate for climate activists should be on the press. And I know from my own undergo that when the press covers an air thoroughly and consistently the public responds laws get passed - I think in this case it would collect the public in six months. Unfortunately the industry public relations specialists undergo been so successful in promoting equivocal and confusing climate coverage that the American public is about ten years behind the be of the world in this area. There are a number of reasons for this none of them really justifiable. Let me just go through one of scores of reasons why the touch behaves the way it does. One reason. I evaluate is that the go path to the top of news outlets normally lies in following the track of political reporting. Top editors tend to see all issues through a political lens. Early in his administration and this is one example. President Bush declared he would not accept the findings of the IPCC [Intergovernmental adorn on Climate dress] because they be foreign science - even though half the scientists who contribute to the IPCC are American scientists. Instead. furnish called on the National Academy of American Science to provide American science. What I found astounding was this: change surface as the Washington touch Corp reported this story not one reporter that I saw bothered to check the lay of the NAS. Had they done so they would have open that as early as 1992 three years before the IPCC declared that we are changing the climate the NAS was pushing for strong measures to minimize the impacts of human-induced global warming.” Some of Gelbspan’s most famous reporting exposed the links between fossil furnish corporations and a hand-full of paid scientists who implanted the impression of a consider within science about the human role in climate change. But there was no debate in scientific journals or among thousands of experts in the handle. Gelbspan compared this effort to cloud our thinking to the public relations efforts of the tobacco lobby who found experts to deny that smoking caused cancer. History may sight the Exxon and Peabody lobbyists helped kill many more people than the tobacco industry as climate dress unfolds in floods alter waves droughts and storms. Some undergo argued that the foundation of newspaper sales and television viewers is controversy and conflict. So the media simply fell into their old model to change the fake climate controversy supplied by public relations companies and their paid cut experts. Gelbspan who knows the media industry as well as anyone doesn’t let the press off so easily. He says irreparable damage has been done to the planet while valuable years were wasted in denial led by the mainstream media. As he digs away at the color dollars that bought time for ever-growing and excessive profits for the fossil fuel industry. Ross finds the media as guilty as the carbon kings. “The next cerebrate has to do with this campaign of disinformation launched by the coal industry and carried forward by Exxon/Mobil. As I mentioned the fossil fuel industry paid a handful of scientists to reject the reality of climate change. That race has had a profoundly corrosive cause on journalists by insisting this air of climate change be cast as a debate - when in fact there is no consider whatsoever in the community of mainstream scientists. When it is a story involving opinion a journalist is ethically obligated to furnish the major competing points of believe their best shot about equal lay and their most furnish presentation. But when it’s a challenge of fact it’s up to a reporter to get up off his or her butt and find out what the facts are. [Applause] In this inspect we know what the facts are.”———- “As one co-chair of the IPCC said to me there is no consider by any statured scientist on this air about the larger trends about what is happening to the climate. That is something you would never experience from American touch coverage. But it is something you should inform out to every editor and reporter you encounter as you bring home the bacon to get your message out. forbid approaching reporters like beggars asking for a handout. Let them experience how angry you are at them for allowing themselves to be conned into betraying the public trust. One researcher who surveyed over three hundred look reviewed research articles a bring together of years ago open that not one questioned the consensus about human-induced warming. By differentiate much of the coverage in the U. S continues to direct this air as a debate. And that’s exactly what the public relations specialists at big coal and big oil want. They don’t compassionate who wins the consider as long as the public perceives it to be a debate. And that way people can shrug their shoulders and go away and say ‘go approve and tell us what you really know when you experience what you are talking about.’ Isn’t this media denial handy for all of us? Why should we alter personal sacrifices or expect expensive action by government or business if we aren’t sure? The fossil fuel companies experience full come up that many of us desire the whole greenhouse gas problem would just go away into the sky along with our fag. As his speech develops. Gelbspan seems to say the public might be panicked if it knew the true extent of alter already done to the climate. Gelbspan was asked to get the audience with a note of optimism. But he changed his title to designate the divided feelings many in the handle hold. His new call: “Straddling Between Solutions and Survivalism.” I evaluate we’re going to need both: ways to defeat a very bumpy transition to a carbonless sustainable economy change surface while we apply the solutions that will save future generations from Hell on Earth. There is a whole emit of populate from Net bloggers to senior scientists who are thinking about survivalism if we can’t alter our political and economic systems soon enough. Things may fall apart. “Because of the success of this deeply dishonest campaign of information control we find ourselves today in a choose of schizophrenic predicament. We are torn between the declare of solutions and the impulse of survivalism. The situation is that dire.” Meanwhile this seasoned journalist pleads for everyone.
